Reach Out was not started with the hopes of it being a successful charitable organization, in fact it was started to simply raise money for the Red Cross Tsunami Disaster Fund, but the response was overwhelming.   People who came loved the fact that they were out and supporting a cause and that their donations were going to something worthwhile, something they believed in.  Through this type of response and continuous support from friends, Reach Out grew into something much bigger than what was originally planned and we hope that it has the longevity to last for years to come.

Reach Out began in the wake of Tsunami disaster in 2004.  As the horror unfolded, it was decided that something should be done and help in some sort of way.  Through similar thinking between 8 friends, Reach Out was born.  The first fundraising event, the Tsunami fundraiser at Afterlife Nightclub, grossed over $15,000 and all of those funds went directly to the Red Cross Tsunami Fund.  Reach Out and the rest of the team hasn’t looked back since.

The charity selection process is rigorous, because there are so many causes, but the charities that have been chosen are selected by the group through a majority vote.  The goal is to help local charities but also to help international charities when it is needed, when there is a crisis or when the time is right.  So far some of the many charitable organizations that have been chosen are:

· The Red Cross

· Julliette’s Place

· The Toronto Star Santa Clause Fund

· Princess Margaret Hospital: Breast Cancer research
